A special collection of handwoven, one of a kind, scarves crafted by artisans from the Abra region of Northern Philippines. Each soft textured scarf is woven from hand dyed cotton threads, embellished with hand stitched tribal figures, and finished with hand stitched edging.
Design fact
The tribal embellishments of the scarf hails from traditional Itneg (or Tingguian) designs of lizards, flowers, plants, frogs (a symbol of good luck), or people highlighting figures commonly found in the surroundings. The Itnegs are the indigenous people of the highlands of Abra. Like their Ilocano neighbors, they too have a strong Inabel weaving culture that endures to this day.
Tiniri is the technique of weaving twisted yarns of different hues to mimic a distinctive tie-dyed look. The background weave of the La Paz scarf was made using the tiniri process. Each scarf design is differentiated by varying vertical and horizontal stripes and/ or bands.
